As I sit here on my porch listening to the crickets chirp and the birds sing, I let myself breathe in the cool air and notice how the evenings are beginning to change.

Life’s what you make it, and sometimes the simplest moments remind us of the beauty of a new chapter. The brisk scent of fall is drifting in, bringing with it both comfort and change. For me, this season always feels like a gentle nudge to pause, reflect, and embrace the path ahead.

For Batten disease families like mine, back-to-school season holds a deeper meaning. It is not only about fresh notebooks and new schedules, but also about the courage to step into unknowns, the faith to believe in what tomorrow may bring, and the determination to celebrate every milestone whether big or small. Our children teach us that time is precious, and fall reminds us that life, like the leaves, is constantly shifting and transforming.

I think of the holidays slowly approaching and how families everywhere prepare for togetherness. For us, holidays are not just celebrations but anchors of hope. They are reminders to hold on to joy even in the midst of hardship. Each season becomes another chapter in the story God is writing for us. Even though we don’t always understand the details, we learn to trust the Author.

Embracing life with Batten disease means choosing to see beauty even in hard places. It means holding tight to the laughter that breaks through long infusion days and savoring the warmth of family even when fatigue weighs heavy. It is about remembering that we were chosen for this path and that our mission is greater than the obstacles in front of us.

As I look toward the months ahead, I remind myself and all who walk this road that life is not measured only by what we lose but by the love we give and the purpose we carry. God has a plan for each of us, and even when the journey feels uncertain, we are exactly where we are meant to be. The seasons may change, but the promise remains the same. We are here to live fully, to love deeply, and to trust that every chapter has meaning.
